Phelps returns to the top step at Silverstone

Elite Motorsport’s Isaac Phelps claimed his second victory of the GB4 season with a superb drive at Silverstone, capping off a competitive weekend that also featured front-running pace in testing, qualifying and the races.

The event began in ideal fashion, as Phelps topped all three Thursday test sessions on the Grand Prix layout, ahead of teammate Ary Bansal and underlining Elite Motorsport’s dominance.

In qualifying, Isaac carried that form through to secure second on the grid for both race one and race two, with only teammate Alex Kattoulas ahead. The Elite trio of Kattoulas, Phelps and Bansal locked out the top three positions on the second-best times classification, underlining the team’s strength.

Phelps challenged for a podium throughout race one. Running strongly in the top three, he was unlucky to drop to fifth place after a trip through the gravel late in the race while battling Jack Taylor for third.

On Sunday morning, Phelps made amends in style. Launching from the front row, he jumped pole sitter Kattoulas off the line and immediately took control of race two. Despite two safety car periods closing the gap, Isaac kept calm under pressure to secure his second GB4 victory of the year, leading home an Elite 1-2-3 finish with Kattoulas and Bansal.

The final race of the weekend saw more drama. Phelps was again battling in the lead pack before contact in the closing stages dropped him out of podium contention. He was classified outside the top five, but still collected points as title rival Dan Guinchard took the win.

With another victory secured, Phelps strengthens his position inside the championship’s top contenders as the season enters its decisive final stages.
