Phelps battles through challenge Silverstone weekend
Elite Motorsport’s Isaac Phelps endured a mixed weekend in the GB4 Championship at Silverstone, showing strong pace across qualifying and the races but missing out on the big results he had hoped for after his double win last time out at Brands Hatch.
In a tightly contested qualifying session around the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit, Phelps was among the early pace-setters and briefly topped the order during the opening phase. With less than a second covering the top-18 runners, Isaac ultimately secured seventh on the grid for race one, and fifth on second-best times to line up inside the top five for race two.
Phelps battled hard in the midfield throughout race one on Saturday, but he brought the car home in seventh place, ensuring valuable points were banked.
Sunday’s race two took place in tricky wet conditions, with the field making late tyre changes as heavy rain arrived. Phelps ran strongly in the second group of cars and pushed hard in the closing stages, crossing the line just outside the top five in sixth position, narrowly missing out on a stronger result after a late-race battle.
In the final race of the weekend, Isaac once again featured inside the leading pack. In a slipstream-heavy contest, he held fifth position for much of the running, crossing the line in sixth after a close fight with title rival Dan Guinchard.
